BCSAR Equipment Pictures
The varied terrain of Butte County requires our unit to maintain a wide variety of equipment to aid in search &
rescue operations.
Rescue 5
Rescue 5 is the newest addition to our equipment roster, and it is first out for any technical rescue. We carry
multiple stokes litters, rope in lengths ranging from 20 to 600 feet, RPM systems and rappelling gear, harnesses
and helmets, swiftwater gear, a radio cache, medical supplies and more. Rescue 5 is Code-3 equipped and will
respond as such if the incident requires.
Rescue 1
Rescue 1 has been replaced by Rescue 5 and it now responds as a secondary rescue vehicle. It is currently being re-worked
to best fit our needs as a light technical rescue resource.
Command 1
Command 1 is the first out for any search that does not have technical rescue aspects involved. On board we
have multiple VHF radios as well as CB. It also carries a laptop for real time topo mapping and team tracking,
as well as a printer and scanner for in-field documentation.
Jet Boat
Our Jet Boat responds to any water rescue on navigable waters, especially static water rescues. Areas it is
used most include Lake Oroville and the Sacramento River.
Snowmobiles
The team has 4 snowmobiles of our own, and we have the use of the Sheriff's 4 snowmobiles if available. The
snowmobiles respond to nearly any remote area rescue call when there is snow in the operational area, and
have the ability to pull sleds with gear or patients on board.
Wave Runners
Our two wave runners respond to any daytime water rescue either to assist the Jet Boat or to
go in areas unnavigable in a larger water craft. Their small size and high maneuverability works
well in many river rescue situations.
