The men and women who volunteer on the Butte County Search and Rescue Team give up their time to make the community safer, and don't ask for much. But now the organization is running low on funding, and needs donations from Butte County residents. Butte County Search and Rescue Captain Ed Stopper say's "we're kicking off the beginning of our annual fundraiser. It's a phone solicitation, and we're just asking for the communities support to continue helping us so we can help them."

Since there's no federal, state, or local funding for the Search and Rescue Team, Stopper say's donations are imperative. "It's critically important because we have no other way of receiving money. Budgets in all government agencies are tight."

According to Stopper the funds being raised will go towards "training for our members, maintenance of equipment, keeping things running. Replacement costs are all vital to our day to day operations." Operations no other agency in the county is capable of handling.

It was Search and Rescue Crews that found the Dominguez Family near Inskip in 2007 after they got lost in the snow for three days. They also respond to dangerous water, and technical rescues. In all the team responds to around 100 incidents a year.
