Doug Hallgren has lived in Chico since 1964, and joined the unit in 2007 and serves as the team's Training Officer.
Doug has an extensive technical background, and has designed and produced specialized industrial machinery in use both in the United States and in many other countries including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Mexico, Iran, Iraq, and India. Some of his unique equipment creations have been pictured in the National Geographic Magazine and were also utilized at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
For decades Doug has enjoyed volunteer work of various kinds, and has an extensive background in preparing and delivering presentations to various sized groups, skills he puts to use as Training Officer.
Doug has long been an outdoor enthusiast enjoying backpacking, hiking, mountaineering, and power boating. He enjoys helping new members learn "the ropes" in Search & Rescue, is active on both Rescue and Search callouts, and helps out with the team's many pieces of equipment, including the Tucker SnoCat.
